Eggs are both entities and food items that are used to hatch and tame several mobs.

Spawning

Eggs do not spawn naturally, and instead can only be spawned in by the player, or by untamed female ostriches upon being bred.

Obtaining

Fishies

Fishies drop up to 2 eggs upon death. The name of the egg differs by the type of fishy.

Medium fish

Medium fish drop up 2 eggs upon death. The name of the egg depends on the type.

Small fish

Small fish drop up to 2 eggs upon death. The name of the egg varies by the type of small fish.

Piranhas

Piranhas drop up to 2 piranha eggs when killed.

Sharks

Sharks drop up to 2 shark eggs upon death. They will only drop eggs on Easy difficulty or higher.

Komodo dragons

Komodo dragons have a 25% chance to drop up to 2 eggs upon death.

Wyverns

Tier 1 and 2 wyverns have a 1/10 chance to drop 0-1 eggs. Mother wyverns have a 1/3 chance.

Snakes

Snakes drop up to 2 eggs upon death. The name of the egg differs by the type of snake.

Ostriches

If a female ostrich has been given a melon seed and paired with a male ostrich, the female will lay a single ostrich egg, but the male and female must be untamed and need to be kept close.

Hatching

Most eggs can be hatched by placing them on the ground, although shark and fish eggs need to be placed in water to hatch.

The notification message that appears after an egg has been spawned.

Eggs are used to hatch and tame mobs that are otherwise untamable with other methods, such as trying to mount an untamed wyvern.

When an egg has been placed on a solid block and is ready to hatch, it will notify the player to keep watch in a chat message, and will also display the egg's current coordinates.

Cooking ingredient

Eggs can be cooked in a furnace to make an omelet.

Trivia

• You can pick up an egg like a dropped item by simply walking over it.
• Eggs can not be thrown like Minecraft eggs, nor can they be used to craft cakes or pumpkin pies.
