Maggots are small, slow-moving passive mobs.

Natural generation

Maggots spawn on grass blocks at light levels of 9 or more with at least 1 block space above. They often spawn in groups of 4 during world generation.

Undead mobs

1–4 maggots will spawn in the place of an undead horsemob, undead horse or undead wyvern upon its death.

Maggots are about 0.8 blocks long and 0.3–0.4 blocks tall.

Maggots drop 0–2 slimeballs when killed. This can be increased with the Looting enchantment. They also drop 1–3 experience when killed by a player or tamed wolf.

Maggots wander around aimlessly, avoiding cliffs high enough to cause fall damage, and staying out of water. Like snails, maggots are very slow mobs. And unlike other insects, maggots cannot fly and only dwell on the ground.

Since maggots are passive, slow-moving and cannot fly, this makes them vulnerable against attacks from bigger mobs that target insects, such as bears, kitties, and boars.
